reorganize information on main page

Description

want to start a discussion about user navigation from main page...

first part of this involves reclaiming the green space "above the fold" on the main page. this space could be used to explain the various websites and link to them (at least the wiki and organize) as well as provide a space to link to logistics and a FAQ page (expanding "learn more").

removing the ussf logo (which is also at the bottom of the page) would provide more space.

COMM wg can provide text for both sections...

thanks, scott

I think that's a good idea - to try removing the logo to generate more space above the fold. I would opt for an "organize" link that goes to a page on organize which outlines what the organize site is all about. I would stay away from a page going to wiki.ussf2010.org - since that site is for a small core of USSF organizers and, I think, will be confusing to the general population of people interested in the forum.

Adding links to a FAQ page and logistics page are also excellent ideas IMO.

on the wiki front:

I think having people go to the wiki is fine - I don't see it simply as a place for a small group of people to organize - it has turned into a rich place of information, and I think people interested in the forum will love exploring it.

  • priority changed from major to critical

Hi Jamie and Mark,

I moved this to critical (don't know if I can do that) but we'd like to get this space redone by Thurs wen an email blast is scheduled to go out. It looks like this space is primarily coded through the widget which is totally beyond my limited expertise with drupal... also we would need a few buttons. Maybe one for "Organize" "Logistics" and "FAQ". DLOC is really in need of the FAQ page right now... I can do the page; but definitely need help with this space on the main page.

I can send the text, links, etc. tomorrow aft.

  • milestone set to 4

Sure- you can certainly put it in critical (I've moved it to milestone 4 as well).

Can you reach out to DAC and see if they have ideas about it?

feel like some of these tickets are progressing very, very slowly... DAC has not gotten back with me, do we wait until they do? the process seems to be getting a little bogged down when many folks are involved in something that seems pretty straight fwd.

can we also restore the link to "learn more" on the home page to the learn more page and not faq for the time being... there was much info on the learn more page that is now not accessible.

thanks, scott

  • resolution set to fixed

We have implemented a number of changes to the  http://www.ussf2010.org home page to allow for more flexible updating of the home page.

I am creating a how to wiki page to explain the workflow of making such edits.

If you have any problems, please post a new ticket.

thanks,

ross
