duplicate registration

Description

what kind of mechanism do we have for ensuring that we don't have duplicate registration? I just tested it for myself, and even though I have already been registered, the system let me register myself again...

Victor and his team in Detroit pointed this out because they are entering mail-in registration forms, and are worried they will enter orgs or people who are already registered.

Can we set the database so that it checks for duplicates and gives a warning if the person or org is already registered?

Hi Sha,

The system checks for dupes based on your email address. So - the database did not create a new contact record for you when you registered twice. Instead, it added a new participant record under your existing contact record. You now have two, one indicating that you are registered and the other indicating pay later.

When doing data entry, CiviCRM offers a button for checking for duplicates during the data entry phase and will warn you if you try to enter a duplicate record (based on email address).

  • status changed from new to closed
  • resolution set to fixed

Given some of the problems we've had - last week we changed the duplicate checking.

Now, when you try to register an individual that has already been reigstered, you get an error message right away, preventing you from registering an individual from two organizations.

I'm going to close this ticket out - but feel free to re-open/follow up with additional questions or suggestions.
