need workshop submissions to be numbered, please

hi all,

we mentioned this a long time ago, but not in the last few months. it's going to become relevant to us real soon....

we need the workshop proposal submissions to be numbered as they come in. this will help us a lot in our review process (we'll be able to refer to proposal number 76, instead of each proposal by title, making our meetings much more efficient).

Do the numbers have to sequential starting from one? Or do they just need any number? I ask because the database numbers every piece of content with a "node id" or "nid". So, we could easily make this field visible. However, it won't start with 1 and it won't be sequential (there will be gaps). If that's ok, it's our easiest option.

We talked about this at our meeting tonight. We don't mind if the proposals are sequential, as long as the numbers are not confusing (6 or 7 digit numbers would be difficult for us, for example).
