ICT Workshops

The Information Communications Technology working group is organizing two workshops to help facilitate effective use of the tools for organizing the USSF 2009. Dates and locations for workshops are published on  USSF Planning Wiki and announced on this site. Curriculum is evolving. Short definitions of terms can be found at the bottom of the page.

Advanced Technology Workshop

  1. Introductions (15 minutes)
    1. USSF, NPC, & LOC
    2. ICT - technology principles
    3. participants: "What are the particular skills you hope to gain today?"
  2. Website (persons will form small groups based on available computers and expertise)
    1. Overview of big ideas related to software purposes and connections (15 minutes)
    2. Revision control system GIT: make sure everyone can get a working revision on their computers and know the commands and procedures
    3. Drupal: in what ways do we expect the drupal site to grow as June 2010 nears? what are the main skills needed to grow the site? (45 minutes)
      1. Level 0: intro to Drupal (users & permissions)
      2. Level 1: content types
      3. Level 2: modules, theming (html & css)
      4. Level 3: organic groups
    4. CiviCRM: how is it used? what are its possibilities for outreach? (45 minutes)
      1. Level 1: adding, finding, editing contacts
      2. Level 2: donations, sending mass mail

General Technology Workshop

  1. Brainstorm list of organizing needs and ideas (5 minutes)
  2. Training exercises (20 minutes)
    • Planning Wiki (MediaWiki) (10 minutes)
    • Posting a support ticket on ICT wiki (Trac) (5 minutes)
    • Email list (Mailman) (5 minutes)
  3. Questions and concerns, plan for implementing "brainstorm list" (5 minutes)
