Notes for ICT conference call 2009-10-15

Present: Alfredo, Mallory, Jamie, Nancy, Sylvia, Ross, Mark, Joseph

  • Mallory gave a report back on the World Social Forum IC meeting in Quebec - the tech work is struggling, she reported back on the US ICT work.
  • Mallory also reported back on the US workshop at the Quebec Social Forum. It was a success and included a live video link with several people in Detroit.
  • Sylvia gave a brief report back on hiring: all hires are being delayed, there are concerns around budget and resources. Decisions will be made during the NPC meeting next week.
  • We scheduled a special call for Wednesday, October 20 at noon Eastern to discuss our strategy for the NPC meeting.
  • Sylvia will be the only ICT representative for the thursday OC meeting. Alfredo, Jamie, and Sylvia will represent on Friday. And Mallory, Jamie, Alfredo and Sylia will represent on saturday and sunday.
  • Workday report backs: Mark and Ross met over the weekend. Will complete a writeup of the tech in the next few days. Mark will schedule a work session for next week. Ross is going to come to NY the weekend of 30 and 31st. We'll be doing some of it online - but will focus a lot of in person planning ("grand universal theory").
  • Consulta work session report back: talk to a bunch of working groups around the consulta process. We got to hear some of the context of the work and feedback on the draft. We will re-convene on Sunday (Oct 18).
  • Mark presented his  proposal for project workshops. Jamie expressed concern over work being isolated from the ICT. Alfredo expressed how projects often cross boundaries (registration and workshop submission) and expressed concern over delaying workshop submissions. Mark will move forward with the project by launching it on  http://wiki.ussf2010.org/.
  • Status of design? And making Drupal site more functional. Nancy put forward a proposal to require logins on the wiki so we know who is changing what. In addition, said wikis are overwhelming and suggested merging them. Nancy and Ross will organize with Mark D. to put together a work session. Joseph also volunteered.
  • Alfredo proposed making the web site a high priority - coming up with the final theme, navigation, etc.
