The ICT Roadmap

A common question about members of USSF working groups is: When will my ICT related request be completed? How is my request related to the other requests of the Social Forum? What are the ICT priorities right now?

As the working group responsible for the information, communications and technology needs of the entire US Social Forum, the ICT working group carefully evaluates all the requests and must prioritize and schedule them based a big picture understanding of the forum.

The Big Picture

The ICT maintains a wiki page that describes our big picture agenda. This page is edited by hand:

The nitty gritty

To help us with this task (and to be as transparent as possible to the entire Forum) we organize the requests into "Milestones" (e.g. Milestone 1, Milestone 2, Milestone 3). Each Milestone has a due date.

The next several milestones (along with due dates and the associated requests) can always be seen here:

Similarly, when viewing your issue, you can check which "Milestone" (if any) your issue has been assigned.

What happens when a milestone due date is reached?

One of three things can happen:

  • All the requests assigned to the milestone have been completed, so we mark the milestone as completed (celebrate!) and we start working on the requests assigned to the next milestone.
  • Most but not all of the requests are completed. So, we re-assign the remaining requests to the next milestone and we mark the current milestone as completed (celebrate!) and we start working on the requests assigned to the next milestone.
  • We realize that the due date was overly optimistic for this milestone, so we push back the due date and continue working on the assigned requests

Editing milestones

Members of ICT: Milestones can be edited via the built-in trac roadmap (you must be logged in).
