Tech House

We are planning to get a place for the month of Detroit to house tech volunteers. Please put down your name, contact info, and the dates you plan to attend!

Please note: we will do our best to get housing for every tech volunteer, however, we can only guarantee space for the first 50.

HOUSING IS CLOSED! Sorry techies, we cannot guarantee housing for any more techies. You'll find lots of options on  the main website

"X" below indicates a housing need has been confirmed and will be fulfilled.

Transportation

Bus

  • Airport: 2 hours, take the 125 to Woodward/Larned transfer to 34 Eastbound along Gratiot to Jay/Gratiot
    • Route 125 serves the airport approximately every half hour, beginning alternately at the North and McNamara terminals (no bus serves both terminals), and takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to get downtown. The fare is $2.00 plus $0.25 for a transfer.  Weekday timetable
  • Bus Station: 25 minutes, walk to Michigan Avenue and take the 34 Eastbound along Gratiot to Jay/Gratiot
  • Cobo Hall: 15 minutes, take the 10 from Larned/Shelby to Orleans/Antietam, walking North just crossing the Fisher freeway to Winder/Orleans

The Eastern Market district is only a couple of miles from Cobo Hall and downtown. Walking to Cobo Hall or the nearest people mover station takes 20 - 10 minutes, respectively. We're working on finding bikes for those that want them.

Bikes!

The wonderful  Hub of Detroit is building up bikes the weekend before things start, and are offering them up for rental at very reasonable sliding-scale rates.

Here's the link to the form where you and anyone you know can reserve a bike for rental:

 http://spreadsheets.google.com/a/thehubofdetroit.org/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dERYYXdTSUhUQ2UydExobXY0dl9qMEE6MA

The details are all on the reservation form, but the bare bones of it are this:

  • Standard rental period is from Tuesday-Friday, specify in your follow-up email with the organizers if you need the bikes earlier.
  • Rental cost is $15-60 sliding scale
  • Bring your own lock, helmet, lights, water bottle, or be prepared to get a hold of one during your stay in Detroit.
